Salary & Pay Scale Details

• Lieutenant (After Training): Level 10 - ₹56,100 - ₹1,77,500/- (7th Pay Commission) + MSP ₹15,500/-
• Additional Benefits: DA (Currently 60% as of Jan 2026), HRA (27% X / 18% Y / 9% Z city), Free Ration, Medical Facilities for self & family, Travel Allowance (TA), and Group Insurance of ₹1.10 Crore.
• Job Security: Permanent Commission (PC) in the Indian Army with prestigious Gazetted Officer status and a lifetime of social security.
• Career Growth: Regular promotions based on performance and departmental examinations. The promotion hierarchy is:
  • Lieutenant: Upon Commissioning

Exam Pattern

The Selection Stages

• Step 1: Application Screening – Candidates are shortlisted based on their 10+2 PCM Percentage and JEE Mains 2026 CRL Rank.
• Step 2: SSB Interview – Shortlisted candidates are invited for a 5-day personality and aptitude assessment.
• Step 3: Medical Examination – Candidates recommended by the SSB undergo a medical checkup at a Military Hospital.
• Step 4: Final Merit List – Issued based on SSB marks and medical fitness (PCM/JEE scores are only for shortlisting).

5-Day SSB Interview Pattern

• Day 1: Stage I (Screening)
  • OIR Test: Intelligence and reasoning MCQ tests.
  • PP&DT: Picture Perception and Discussion Test (Story writing and group discussion).
  • Note: Only those who clear Day 1 stay for the next 4 days.
• Day 2: Psychology Tests
  • TAT: Thematic Apperception Test (Writing stories based on 11+1 images).
  • WAT: Word Association Test (Making sentences from 60 words).
  • SRT: Situation Reaction Test (Responding to 60 real-life scenarios).
  • SD: Self-Description (Writing about oneself from various perspectives).
• Day 3 & 4: GTO Tasks (Group Testing Officer)
  • GD & GPE: Group Discussions and Group Planning Exercise.
  • PGT/HGT: Progressive and Half Group Tasks (Obstacle crossing with a team).
  • Individual Obstacles: 10 physical hurdles to clear in 3 minutes.
  • Command Task: Leading a small team to solve a specific obstacle.
• Day 2 to 4: Personal Interview: One-on-one session with the Interviewing Officer (IO) focusing on background and personality.
• Day 5: Conference: Final board meeting with all assessors to determine the candidate's recommendation.
