Exam Pattern

Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Screening/Qualifying Test)

  • Exam Mode: Offline (Pen & Paper / OMR Sheet Based)
  • Question Type: Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Total Papers: 2 Compulsory Papers conducted on the same day.
  • Total Marks: 600 Marks (300 Marks per paper)
  • Total Questions: 200 Questions (100 Questions per paper)
  • Exam Duration: 2 Hours (120 Minutes) per paper
  • Marking Scheme: Each correct response adds 3 marks.
  • Negative Marking: Deducts 1 mark (1/3) for every incorrect choice.

  • Paper-Wise Structure:
    • Paper I: General Studies: 100 Questions | 300 Marks
    • Paper II: General Aptitude Test (CSAT): 100 Questions | 300 Marks

Stage 2: Main Examination (Merit Deciding)

  • Exam Mode: Offline Conventional Pen-and-Paper Subjective Writing
  • Total Papers: 6 Mandatory Papers
  • Total Marks: 1500 Marks
  • Language Medium: Answers can be written in either Hindi or English for GS papers. Language papers must be completed in Hindi.
  • Paper-Wise Breakdown:
    • General Studies I (History & Geography): 3 Hours | 300 Marks
    • General Studies II (Polity, Governance & Sociology): 3 Hours | 300 Marks
    • General Studies III (Economy, Science, Technology & Health): 3 Hours | 300 Marks
    • General Studies IV (Philosophy, Psychology & Public Administration/Ethics): 3 Hours | 300 Marks
    • General Hindi & Grammar: 2 Hours | 200 Marks
    • Hindi Essay & Draft Writing: 2.5 Hours | 100 Marks

Stage 3: Personal Interview (Personality Test)

  • Interview Marks: 175 Marks (Conducted individually by a selection board panel to assess administrative aptitude, leadership values, and soft skills).
  • Final Ranking Criteria: The definitive merit list is calculated out of 1675 Marks Total (Stage 2 Mains score of 1500 + Stage 3 Interview score of 175). Preliminary screening marks are omitted from this final placement tally.
