Age Limit & Selection Process

• Age Limit: Minimum 18 years and Maximum 33 years for Technician Grade III / 36 years for Technician Grade I Signal (as on 01.07.2026)
• Selection Process: Computer Based Test (CBT) → Document Verification → Medical Examination

• Bachelor Degree in Science (Physics / Electronics / Computer Science / IT / Instrumentation) or B.E / B.Tech / Diploma in relevant Engineering stream
• Age: 18-36 Years

• 10th Pass + ITI Certificate from NCVT / SCVT in relevant trade
• Age: 18-33 Years

Salary & Pay Scale Details

• Technician Grade-I (Signal): Level 5 - ₹29,200 – ₹92,300/- (Initial Basic: ₹29,200/-)
• Technician Grade-III: Level 2 - ₹19,900 – ₹63,200/- (Initial Basic: ₹19,900/-)
• Additional Benefits: DA (Currently 60% as of Jan 2026), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance, Free Medical facilities, and Pension (under NPS).
• Job Security: Permanent, highly secure technical cadre position inside Indian Railways with continuous employment guarantees.
• Career Growth: Direct departmental promotions and internal exams (GDCE) leading up to Senior Technician, Junior Engineer (JE), and Section Engineer (SE) cadres.

Exam Pattern

Common CBT Rules (For Both Posts)

• Exam Mode: Online Computer Based Test (CBT).
• Question Type: Objective Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
• Total Questions: 100 Questions.
• Total Marks: 100 Marks (1 mark per question).
• Time Duration: 90 Minutes (1 hour and 30 minutes).
• Negative Marking: 1/3rd (0.33) mark deduction for every wrong answer.

• General Awareness: 10 Questions | 10 Marks
• General Intelligence & Reasoning: 15 Questions | 15 Marks
• Basics of Computers and Applications: 20 Questions | 20 Marks
• Mathematics: 20 Questions | 20 Marks
• Basic Science and Engineering: 35 Questions | 35 Marks
• Total: 100 Questions | 100 Marks

2. Technician Grade-III Exam Pattern

• Mathematics: 25 Questions | 25 Marks
• General Intelligence & Reasoning: 25 Questions | 25 Marks
• General Science: 40 Questions | 40 Marks (Highly important weightage)
• General Awareness: 10 Questions | 10 Marks
• Total: 100 Questions | 100 Marks
