Application Fee

Age Limit & Selection Process

  • Age Limit: Level 2 : 18-30 years, Level 1 : 18-33 years as on 01/01/2027. Relaxation: OBC (NCL) 3 years, SC / ST 5 years, PwBD 10 years (OBC 13, SC / ST 15); other relaxations as per the notification.
  • Selection Process: Written Test (CBT / TBT) → Document Verification → Merit on Written Test and Scout & Guide certificate marks → Medical Examination.

  • Scouting Qualification (both posts) : President Scout / Guide / Rover / Ranger or Himalaya Wood Badge (HWB) holder; active member of a Scouts organisation for the last 5 years; 2 events at National or All India Railway level and 2 at State level.
  • No post is reserved for any category. You can apply for both levels with a separate form and fee for each.

Salary & Pay Scale Details

  • Group ‘C’ : Level 2, ₹19,900 – 63,200
  • Group ‘D’ (Erstwhile) : Level 1, ₹18,000 – 56,900
  • 7th CPC Pay Matrix, RS(RP) Rules 2016; appointment at the minimum of the pay level
  • Probation : as per rules · Posting : decided by Northern Railway
  • Clerks must gain typing proficiency within 2 years of appointment

Exam Pattern

  • Written Test (CBT / TBT) : 40 objective questions (40 marks) + 1 essay question (20 marks), 60 minutes
  • Subjects : Scouts & Guides organisation and activities, and General Knowledge (syllabus in Annexure-II)
  • Marks on Certificates : 40 (National events 10, State events 10, Specialised courses 10, District rallies 10); total 100
  • Negative marking : 1/3 mark for each wrong objective answer; medium Hindi or English
  • Minimum 40% in the written test; 5 times the vacancies called for Document Verification
  • Written Test and Document Verification : Delhi only

Application Process

  1. Open the RRC Northern Railway website, read the notification and tick the box confirming you have read it.
  2. Click Apply Online; choose New Registration if you are new, or log in if you are already registered.
  3. Fill the Registration Form and Application Form; to apply for both levels, submit a separate application for each.
  4. Pay the fee online from your own bank account, because any refund goes back to the same account.
  5. Upload your photo in full Scout & Guide uniform with cap, your signature and left thumb impression.
  6. Upload your 10th certificate, qualification and scouting certificates, a Certificate of Activeness issued after the notification, and caste certificate if any.
  7. Complete every part before the last date, then print the payment slip and the application.
