Application Fee

UPSC One-Time Registration, commonly known as OTR, is a mandatory online profile system introduced by the Union Public Service Commission for all candidates who apply for UPSC examinations. Instead of entering personal details again and again for every exam, candidates now create one permanent profile on the UPSC website, which is used for all future applications.

Once OTR is completed, candidates can apply for any UPSC exam such as Civil Services, CDS, NDA, CAPF, Engineering Services, and others using this single account.

Age Limit & Selection Process

  • Age Limit for UPSC CSE: Minimum 21 years, Maximum 32 years (as on 01/08/2025)
  • Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, up to 10 years for PwBD, and other categories as per Govt. rules
  • Selection Process: Prelims (Objective), Mains (Written), Interview (Personality Test)
  • Note: OTR is mandatory prior to applying for any UPSC exam

  • Upload photo, signature, and identity proof

After this, your OTR profile will be created successfully.

Exam Difficulty & Competition Analysis

  • UPSC Civil Services is considered one of the most difficult and competitive exams in India.
  • Around 13 to 14 lakh candidates apply for the exam every year.
  • Only about 900 to 1,100 candidates are finally selected for IAS, IPS, IFS and other services.
  • The overall success rate remains around 0.1% to 0.2%.
  • The Prelims cut-off (General) usually stays between 75 and 90 marks out of 200.
  • The Mains cut-off (General) generally falls between 720 and 750 marks out of 1750.
  • The final cut-off (Mains + Interview) is normally around 930 to 960 marks.
  • Most serious aspirants require 12 to 18 months of dedicated preparation to compete at this level.
